GARMENT CARE
Garment Care
A William Sea gown is an investment—and like any true investment, it requires thoughtful, meticulous care. These are not garments that can be placed in a washing machine or hung casually in a wardrobe. Each gown is crafted from delicate fabrics and adorned with hand-applied embellishments that demand expertise and respect.
Professional Care Only
We recommend professional dry cleaning only. Not all dry cleaners have the experience required to treat couture-level garments. Find a specialist who works regularly with silk, tulle, and intricate embellishments. A skilled cleaner will inspect the gown thoroughly before treatment and take the necessary precautions to protect delicate areas.
Proper Storage
Between wears, proper storage is essential. Each William Sea gown is delivered with a breathable garment bag—please use it.
- Do not store your gown in plastic, as it traps moisture and can damage the fabric.
- Always hang your gown on a padded hanger to maintain its shape.
- Store it in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight, humidity, and heat.
Creases & Steaming
If your gown becomes creased during travel or storage, do not attempt to iron it. Silk and tulle require precise temperatures and handling.
For the safest result:
- Use a professional steamer, or
- Take it to a dry cleaner experienced in evening wear.
If you must address a small crease at home, use a handheld steamer on the lowest setting and keep it at a safe distance from the fabric.
Embellishments
Crystals, beads, and embroidery require gentle care.
- Avoid spraying perfume, hairspray, or cosmetics directly onto the gown.
- Apply these products before dressing, and allow them to dry completely.
Repairs & Adjustments
If your gown requires repairs or alterations, please contact us directly. Our artisans understand every seam and detail of your gown’s construction. Having adjustments made elsewhere risks compromising the integrity of the piece.
A Gown to Treasure
Treat your gown with the care it deserves, and it will remain beautiful for years—meant to be worn again, cherished, and perhaps even passed down.
William Sea gowns are created to endure. Care for them, and they will honour you every time you wear them.
